This project is a great showcase of what can be accomplished with a Deco Design kitchen remodel. When I first met with the client they expressed their unhappiness with the current dark stained cabinets and their desire to change the overall layout. Being that the space only allowed for a galley type set up, the only real changes to be made were to appliance location and the overall flow and feeling of the space.
After our meeting, I drew up two separate plans, one with some drastic changes and a second with minor changes. We ended up deciding on a plan that incorporated some small changes to the location of things and some major changes in regards to balance and function, one of our specialties.
We decided to integrate the dishwasher door and trash compactor with cabinet fronts to maintain flow. The old island had swinging bar stools that I felt needed to go in order to create additional walking space and give the kitchen a more modern feel. We went with a white painted surround with a by-fold pantry and small appliance center, a shallow depth cabinet to hide the backside of the adjoining hall closet as well as some floating shelves to break up the overwhelming feel of cabinet doors. The bulk of the base cabinets are drawers paired a soft close track. The pantry space was outfitted with extra deep drawers for larger items. For the island we decided on a dark charcoal color that, along with the black stainless appliances, creates a nice contrast with the white cabinetry.
Our custom made design and attention to detail resulted in a simple, clean look that provides all the function and durability the client desired. They are very pleased with our uncompromised commitment to using only exceptional products and finishes.
